Survey by Vapaa-ajattelijain liitto ry (Union of Freethinkers)
During the last five parliamentary elections, the Vapaa-ajattelijain liitto ry has had a survey with questions related to freedom of religion, belief and thought. One of these issues concerns the non-medical circumcision of boys.
The question has been formulated in slightly different ways at each election period, but the answer options are comparable between the different surveys.
Examples of question wording and answer options from 2019:
Should circumcision of boys for religious reasons be allowed?
- Circumcision for religious reasons should be prohibited.
- Circumcision for religious reasons should be allowed.
- I do not answer / None of the above.
In the summary on this page, the answer options have been marked with protect and violate, respectively, based on whether the answer option means that the child’s bodily integrity and genital autonomy is protected or violated. The marking not submitted means that the person was a candidate for those elections, but did not submit this election survey.
The 2023 column (and the filtering checkbox Candidate 2023) shows an incomplete candidate list. More candidates will be added continuously. The official candidate list is published after 2 March 2023 by the Ministry of Justice, which acts as the supreme election authority.
